Feb 21st – Scout Week – Blood Drive at the Blood Clinic

If you’ve been paying attention to wScouter you know Peter Gamblin is hosting a Blood Drive at the Blood Clinic at Silvercreek & Willow on Feb 21st.  What everyone is hoping, is that we’ll bring in some new donors, and perhaps bring back some donors who haven’t donated in a while.  Free coffee, cookies and juice (hey bribery is good!).  Peter is making his 100th donation; Heather, her 30th. 9-11am.

How to do Gift-in-Kind Receipts

A common problem is how Groups can provide tax receipts for non-monetary gifts.  The proper way to accomplish this, according to Chuck McIlravey, is to:

– have the donor provide the item and invoice the Group for its’ value

– the Group pays the invoice by cheque

– the donor then donates the full amount back to Scouting through the CEC office, cheque payable to Scouts Canada, marked as specifically for the Group (this last point is important).

– CEC will then accept the donation, issue the receipt, and issue a cheque to the Group

Remember that it will normally take 30 to 40 days before your Group receives its’ funds back.

Mercury – Scout Week Special Section

Hey Folks, as you know we are commited to a special section just for us during Scout Week. We now face two challenges.

First, the Mercury will need to sell the advertising space.  I will be advertising my own firm (for the 1st time I might add).  If any of you own, or work for, businesses that could advertise, please drop me an email (soon).  I’ll pass it along to Jennifer at the Mercury and she’ll take it from there.  Rates are quite reasonable, click -HERE- for the Sell Sheet.  Use my email ac@wellington.on.scouts.ca and I’ll pass it along, she will contact you directly.

Second, we now have to FILL the section with articles and pictures.  Brian Peebles will be doing the lion’s share of the work in assembling, and would REALLY appreciate as many articles and pictures as you can send him.  If we work hard at this, it really will sell Scouting in Wellington.  Please contact him directly mediapr@wellington.on.scouts.ca will get you there.

I’m counting on you!  While I won’t resort to bribery, I will resort to blackmail if we don’t get any action!

Friends of the Guelph Public Library Book Sale – It’s Done!

The 27th Guelph Scouts had a great experience volunteering with the Friends of the Guelph Public Library annual book sale. They helped by delivering and posting flyers in the downtown core as well as sorting books before the sale. The sale was a huge success raising over $10,000 which was invested with the Guelph Community Foundation until the building of the new Main Branch Library, when the money will be dedicated to a special project for Children and Young Adult library patrons.  Click -HERE- for the Friends’ public thank-you letter.  Thanks to Sandra for forwarding this.  Wouldn’t DREAM of playing editor on your letter Sandra 🙂dscn4307
