Jean Cardinell has passed into the nearer presence of God
I am writing to let you know that Jean Cardinell has passed into the nearer presence of God this morning. A celebration of Jean’s life is being held at St. James Anglican Church on Saturday, August 30th at 1pm with family and friends. Everyone is welcome!
I have spoken with Father Kevin Bothwell who has been in touch with the family and they are hoping to have as many scouters – young and old – as possible attend the service. Please let me know if you expect to attend so we can plan food.
Ashes will be present and a procession with colour party would be much appreciated. Jeff and I will coordinate that. I asked Fr Kevin if it would be appropriate that we sing a song for Jean and he said absolutely. As a suggestion, words to ‘In my dreams I’m going back to Gilwell’ (the Gilwell Hymn) which is short and Back to Gilwell are attached. I can make copies of the music and words for the service.
If you have any ideas to add a Scouting flavour to the service, please pass them along and I’ll take them to Fr Kevin..
Please join us for a final farewell to Jean on Saturday, Aug 30 at 1pm!
Yours in Scouting,
Woodbadge Part I – Group Commissioners Training
As you know, Scouts Canada has mandated that all adults in the movement take training within their first year. If you’re already in the post and haven’t taken training yet, you must take it when it becomes available, within the first year. This now includes Group Commissioners.
The first Group Commissioners course is available in Wellington Fri Sep 26th through Sat Sep 27th at a cost of $35. (Fri 7-9:30pm, Sat 8am-8:30pm). Lunch & supper provided on Saturday. You’ll find snacks, coffee and drinks available throughout. While it’s not residential, you’re welcome to camp or use the bunk room, however, you’re on your own and must care for yourself.
Registration is limited, first come first served. Registration is through Wellington Area. Please forward inquiries and registrations to gcwb@scouter.ca and we’ll take it from there. If you have sent your registration to CEC, Chucki will forward the info to me.
CEC Fall Camporee – Oct 3rd thru 5th

Share The Excitement Program (S.T.E.P.)
The new Scouting year is about to start and with it, the Central Escarpment Council is pleased to announce a new rewards incentive program to encourage the strengthening of Scouting in your community.
The program, “Share The Excitement Program (S.T.E.P.)” is a step-by-step approach to encouraging more youth, adults and sponsors (both existing and potential new to scouting) to the excitement we all experience by participating in Scouting.
Depending on how much you, your youth and your Group participate, there are rewards and prizes to be won; caps, camp site passes, walking sticks, crests, and much more.
Get more details and your program copy to start planning your STEPs now at the following links:

Ribfest 2008
It’s wrapping up as I write this. Thanks as always to the Wellington Gilwell club for providing the service, in this, their only fund-raiser for the year. Weather was very good, attendance outstanding, and fun was had by all (even the folks manning the parking lot and garbage collection). A very visible performance.
Welcome to a new Scouting year
It’s the end of August, and Scouting is back and consuming as much time as you choose to give it. Yeah, I know, I have the same problem! 🙂
Registration information has now been posted (go to the Wellington site, or directly to registration in the Links to the right). We’re looking for 100% in Wellington this year, and we WILL make it!
You’ll notice the new format for the blog. It makes it FAR easier for me to post, is easier to maintain, and should be easier for you to use. Any postings will be categorized to the right which should also make it easier to find at a later date. Have a GREAT Scouting year!
